ABN's products are all natural and provide the highest levels of DHA and ARA in dry and liquid forms. They are derived from either microalgae or other microbial sources and are produced by fermentation. Unlike fish oil sources of these fatty acids, ABN's products are all contaminant-free and come from sustainable sources.

Enrichments for Live Feed

ABN's zooplankton enrichment products provide the highest levels of DHA and ARA in rotifers and Artemia, resulting in improved larval survival and growth of many food-fish species. Because they contain no EPA, our products enable an ideal high DHA:EPA ratio in zooplankton, a ratio not possible with fish oil-based emulsions.

Algae are part of the natural aquatic food chain, so they are readily ingested by rotifers and Artemia, giving ABN's products a natural advantage over emulsion-based enrichments. Studies have shown that ABN's unique phospholipid-based products yield high tissue levels of DHA or ARA in zooplankton--much higher than is possible using fish oil emulsions. ABN's products are in powdered form, and thus have a longer shelf life and impart better water quality than emulsions.

AquaGrow® ADVANTAGE: Excellent DHA enrichment for rotifers and Artemia. Ideal for live feed enrichments; provides a rich source of DHA and other phytonutrients. High (10% by weight) DHA algal-source enrichment improves larval growth and development by providing ideal DHA:EPA ratio in Artemia and rotifers. High-fat algal cells remain buoyant in the water column and accessible to zooplankton. Excellent supplement to live algae for zoea-stage shrimp, and great supplement to larval diet for early PL-stage shrimp. Contains intact algal cells and thus will not leach or contribute to foaming or fouling, unlike fish oil emulsions. Average particle size: 12 microns.

AquaGrow® ADVANTAGE-EN: Excellent DHA/astaxanthin enrichment for rotifers and Artemia. ADVANTAGE-EN contains the intact cells of two algae that are natural aquatic food sources. It provides same benefits as AquaGrow® ADVANTAGE, with addition of astaxanthin and a higher protein and beta-glucan content. Also yields improved survival and growth rates for hard-to-grow ornamental species. Contains 10% (by weight) algal-source DHA as well as natural algal-source astaxanthin, for improved egg hatching rates, larval survival, and pigmentation. Particle size range: 5-12 microns.

AquaGrow® ADVANTAGE-BL: Unique DHA/ARA enrichment for rotifers and Artemia. Ideal for live feed enrichments; provides rich source of DHA and ARA. Unique combination of microbially derived DHA and ARA in optimal 5:1 ratio. When added as supplement to fish broodstock diets, it can dramatically improve reproduction and egg hatching rates in finfish, and increase survival rates during periods of osmotic stress and metamorphosis to adulthood. As a supplement in larval diets, ADVANTAGE-BL can boost tolerance to disease and increase post-stress survival.

Smolt Diet to improve survival (currently in trials). Initial studies have demonstrated improved stress tolerance in animals fed ABN's AquaGrow® ARA.

Pigmentation Enhancer (currently in trials): Astaxanthin is one of the most expensive ingredients in salmon feed, yet its uptake in animal tissue is shockingly low. In addition, astaxanthin is an unstable molecule that loses its potency during the diet manufacturing process as well as over time in storage. Initial studies have demonstrated a 50% improvement of astaxanthin bioavailability when provided with a natural source of astaxanthin.

The improved uptake and increased shelf life result in a marked decrease in the amount of astaxanthin that must be added to the diet to achieve the desired pigmentation. This could significantly lower the cost of the diet, providing economic benefits for both the feed manufacturer and salmon farmer. Initial studies have demonstrated a 50% improvement in astaxanthin bioavailability when provided with a natural source of antioxidants.
